Located at the edge of Washtenaw county, among the rolling glacial farmlands of Waterloo Township, the Superior Cedar Sauna sits on an historic farm, nestled among red barns. The design pulls from the client's love of Northern Michigan, and prioritized cedar over other species as a nod to the white cedar forests of Northern Michigan. The exterior is wrapped in cedar shingles. A cedar deck wraps around the south east edge, terminating into a cedar stave privacy wall, truncated at the bottom in rolling waves as a nod to Lake Superior. Inside, the sauna room is clad in Knotty cedar, and a michigan-made Nippa wood-burning stove rolls steam over the socially designed benches.
