Located in the Arbor Hills neighborhood of Ann Arbor, this interior sauna pulls from the house's historic design, mixing the architectural style of the architect, Albert Kahn, with modern, simple design. Part of a full bath suite remodel, the sauna is complimented with a steam shower. Clad inside and out in thermally modified alder, light is meant to wash across the slightly unstable wood, reflecting and accenting its natural tendency to slightly warp and twist, a nod to the rolling brickwork of the house’s exterior. Clear Aspen backrests and benches are backlit by warm Cariitti lights, which filter through the wide-gapped boards to create a repeating and diffusing grid of light upon entry. An IKI pillar heater brings the löyly.
