Built in Suomi (meaning Finland in Finnish) location outside Neguanne, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula, this sauna is rooted in the heart of Michigan’s Finnish culture with modern touches. The location, an old farmstead settled by Finnish immigrants, is adjoined by acres of spruce forest. An existing shed was modified for the sauna space, keeping the original shiplap siding while cladding the interior in rich, clear hemlock. Through a custom built cedar and ash door, a two tier aspen and cedar bench waterfalls to a traditional open bathing area. A simple remotely controlled Huum Drop heater adds löyly.
