Wood
At the heart of Finnish sauna design lies simplicity and connection to nature. We carefully select premium materials, prioritizing thermally modified wood for its exceptional stability and decay resistance. This innovative product enhances the wood's natural properties, creating a material that won't warp or shrink in the intense sauna environment while providing a beautiful, rich aesthetic. It’s something Nordic builders have been using for years.
We design our benches to compliment the cladding, using traditional choices like spruce and more modern ones like aspen and magnolia. We follow time-tested principles for bench height and arrangement, creating the traditional tiered seating that allows you to choose your perfect temperature zone—with feet always above the rocks. Every element, from door positioning to ceiling height, is calculated to maintain heat efficiency while honoring Finnish design principles and your design choices. We use specialized sauna lighting designed specifically for high-temperature environments, creating gentle, soothing light.
Steam
To the ancient Finns, Löyly was, and is, a life force. No sauna experience is complete without it. No sauna experience is complete without it. What separates a true Finnish sauna from imitators is the quality of steam. Our construction methods ensure temperatures reach the authentic 80-100°C while maintaining humidity levels. Because of this, we understand how important the role good ventilation has on the sauna experience. Our construction begins with proper ventilation planning – the cornerstone of authentic Finnish design. We create the essential high-low air circulation to produce the perfect löyly experience every time.
Fire
The kiuas (stove) placement forms the heart of the sauna, traditionally positioned to allow heat to rise evenly throughout the space. We use both modern wood and electric heaters with traditional olivine diabase, peridotite, and gabbro rocks, used for generations because of their superior heat retention and resistance to cracking under extreme temperature changes. While the sauna experience and the heat that accompanies it is timeless, we bring in modern technology to heighten the experience, such as remote controllers and wifi connected heaters.
Craftsmanship
We have been building saunas for a long time. We understand what makes them work, and how to make them beautiful. The sauna is a place of rejuvenation, relaxation, and replenishment. We focus on design which heightens the experience, from bench material and design, to lighting and sound. We don’t think of a sauna as apart from your home, we think of it as integral as any other room, from a kitchen to a bathroom. We craft our custom saunas to marry seamlessly into your space, like something that has been there forever, and will continue the same.
